Jeremiah 29:11

Jeremiah 29:11 I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, the plans to prosper you and not to harm you. To give you a hope and a future…
This is my favorite verse.
The context of this passage is Israel being told they will live in Babylon for 70 years. They have turned their backs on God for centuries. God waited patiently for a long time, but now has brought about some of his final judgement on them. Some have already been deported, but soon the temple and Solomon’s palace (everything symbolically the Jews hold as a sign God will never leave them) will be destroyed. God has warned them over and over to return to Him
Jeremiah warns them of the pending judgement. God shows how He will uproot them from everything they know, but He never leaves it there. God’s greatest desire for us is to be one with Him and to worship Him. God’s ultimate goal is to bring His children back to Him. In Jeremiah 29 He shares about how He will one day bring them back from Babylon. He will forgive their sins, and they will worship Him again, because ultimately His love is so great for us He wants to be in communion with us.
If you remember to, take some time to be with Him today, especially in moments when you normally wouldn’t.
As we draw close to Him he will draw Himself to us. He will lead us in the way we should go!

Todd & Angie- you both inspire us in so many ways and we”re grateful that God has lead us to you! Our dream is to do missionary work drilling wells for villages or tribes (mainly children) who have never seen clean fresh water and to bring the Savior to them!! What a precious gift! My husband and I are gathering_ with Gods grace and abundance to bring this gift to those that know no difference! We take so much for granted in general as very blessed children of God!! We do not know the vehicle to accomplish our mission and know it’s our calling. Thought maybe you were our contact for the missions to obtain wheels. Thank you for being a light and having the strength to guide others. I just moved to South Africa, to be here for a year, to volunteer at an amazing organization that helps the HIV/AIDS affected community.
I have this verse on my blog. It’s what God gave to me 2 years ago before I first came to South Africa on a mission trip.
I sent an email to Angie that all I was listening to while I packed up my apartment was Selah. The passion in your voice is like none other.

hi mr. smith, or can i just call you todd?? anyway, my brother is a missionary in senegal west africa and he had a chance to see you in concert in buffalo a couple years ago and you let him comeup on stage with you to sing. he talks so highly of you and the rest of selah. since then i have been waiting for you to come to cincinnati area for a concert. 😉 i have followed angie’s blog since before audrey was born, since her diagnosis i think and i am looking forward to checking in on you (thanks for letting us) and see your perspective on your life as “mr angie smith” 🙂

I can’t believe I just came across your new blog on the first days you started writing. What luck! 🙂 I was just googling Selah trying to find out when your next cd comes out. I am a big fan of your wife’s blog and have been reading her posts since before little Audrey was born. We had a baby that only lived for an hour in our arms. He was our first child, we now have three little ones keeping our house noisy and busy 🙂 If I remember correctly there was a song by Selah called something like ‘I’ll carry you’ that she mentioned on her blog that would come out this spring. Is that cd out yet? I can’t wait to get my hands on that one. I am so thrilled that after so many years moms who have chosen to carry a terminally ill baby to term now have a voice…through Ang…and through your music. Thankyou!

My wife and I have been huge, HUGE fans of Selah for years now. I was looking for your tour dates to try and find a close show to surprise my wife with and came across your blog, and must share what this verse has come to mean to me over the last couple of years. I have lived a blessed life. I grew up in the church and was blessed with Godly parents. I was pampered by the Creator of the universe…but I didn’t know it at the time. I married an amazing wife and was welcomed into one of the most Godly families I’ve ever met. My wife’s siblings are all married and on fire for the Lord. If anyone deserved to be protected from struggles, it is this family. My neice, Lilly, was born almost 2 years ago. An absolutley beautiful baby girl. A few months passed and amidst the joy of her family, some concern crept up. You see, Lilly was not progressing at the rate that they had expected she would. As months passed with no progression, her parents started taking her to specialists, because doctors fix everything these days. The first specialist ran tests, but couldn’t figure it out, then sent her to another specialist who couldn’t figure it out, and this process has continued for about 1.5 years now. No one can figure out why Lilly won’t get better. She’s almost two and lives at the level of an infant (who is almost, if not completely, blind). As time passed, we launched a prayer assault. We were bound and determined to beat this with prayer. So, day after day, we’ve prayed for Lilly to be healed and day after day, no healing comes. After months of continual prayer, and months of not getting the answer I wanted, I broke. I was furious with God. I started yelling at God in the car on my way home (sorry if that sounds crazy, but that’s what happened). Why would he do this to such an amazing family? Why wouldn’t He listen to us? Why wasn’t he healing Lilly? And as my anger reached a peak, the Spirit kicked me in the gut. You see, Lilly, my amazing little neice, has sent literally thousands of people to their knees. Churches who have never met this family pray for her consistantly. People are closer to the Father because of Lilly. What hit me hardest is that this little girl who has never uttered a single word has sent me to the feet of my Creator every single day, sometimes in tears, but always recognizing His power. You see, God knows what plans he has for Lilly. And no, we don’t understand why this has to happen, but I do know that many have spoken to Him over the last couple of years that probably wouldn’t have otherwise. And He does have a future for this angel, but it may not be what we want. I still beg God daily to heal Lilly, because on the day that that little girl says her first word, thousands will praise His name, but I have now let Him have my hope. His plans are better than mine. His timing is better than mine. God knows the plans He has for us…we just have to trust Him and let Him work. Sorry to take so much of your time, but this has become a huge verse to me. Your music is a blessing to many and has helped us tremendously over the past couple of years. God bless and keep up the great work!

I really like it when verses are explained in the context written. Thank you for that. and thank you for reminding us that everyone can be more in tune with God’s message now, unlike the Babylonians who had forgotten what God was all about.
